Struggling to write your wedding vows?
You’re not alone! As a wedding celebrant, I’ve helped many couples navigate this meaningful part of their ceremony, and I promise—it’s not as hard as it seems.
Start With Purpose
Before you put pen to paper, ask yourself: Why am I doing this? You don’t have to write vows, but most couples choose to because they want to tell their partner why they’re so special.
Remember, your vows are for your partner—not for your family, friends, or anyone else. We’re all privileged to witness the moment, but the words should be just for the two of you.
Speak From the Heart With Your Wedding Vows
You don’t need Google or AI to help you say what you feel. You talk to your partner every day, and your wedding day is no different.
There are no rules for personal vows - except for the legal bit, (that's my job as your wedding celebrant, which I’ll handle).
If you speak from the heart, you can’t get it wrong.

Focus on What Matters In Your Vows
You don’t need to retell your entire love story. Your partner already knows it - they’ve lived it with you!
If you want, pick a favourite moment and use it to explain why you love them.
Share why that memory is so special.
Look to the Future
Wedding vows are promises, so think about what you want for your future together.
What do you hope for?
What do you dream of?
This is your chance to share your vision for your life as a couple.
Make Your Promises In Your Wedding Vows
Consider what you want to promise—to do, to be, or to strive for. These words will guide you both as you move forward together.
Funny or Serious Vows?
Or both! From my perspective as a wedding celebrant, a mixture of funny moments and heart felt sentiment works best when writing your vows.
A funny comment can ease the stress that many couples feel, but these are your ultimate promises to the love of your life.
Photos speak a thousand words, have a look at some of the moments from amazing couples I’ve had the privilege to marry as they exchange their wedding vows … you can see all the best emotions!
