Ask The Wedding Celebrant!....How quickly can I get married?

You’ve just met the love of your life and you want to get married as quickly as possible …
So, how quickly can you get married?
Generally, you need to wait a minimum of one month after lodging your Notice Of Intended Marriage (NOIM), the first of the legal documents you complete.
To lodge it, the NOIM must be signed in the presence of an authorised person (your celebrant is easiest) and then given to your celebrant. It is considered lodged, on the day your celebrant receives it and you can get married one month after that date. It is one calendar month not a set number of days.
In some instances, you may be able to get married more quickly than one month
– but the requirements are very specific!:
Employment–related, or other travel commitments
Wedding or celebration arrangements, or religious considerations
Medical reasons
Legal proceedings, and
Error in giving notice.

You need to complete the NOIM and then apply to the relevant authority (depending on where you want to get married) for a Shortening Of Time.
IF your application is approved, then I can marry you in less than one month.
I encourage couples who have chosen me as their wedding celebrant to sign the NOIM as soon as possible (noting the maximum of 18 months prior to their wedding). Once the NOIM is lodged, if you want to bring your planned wedding date forward, you can easily do that. My other reason, is that it is something simple to do and once completed, it is one less thing to worry about – once less stress. (You might want to read my blog about minimising stress)
